| Chromebook Tips! Troubleshooting your Camera, Microphone, and Audio |
Please use the following tips to troubleshoot your Chromebook camera if it is showing as black or red, and your microphone and audio as needed.
1. For the camera, make sure the privacy slider is open. If you see the symbol of your camera with a line through it, it means the slider is closed.
Look for the button at the top of the Chromebook screen and find the picture that looks like yours below to make sure it is in the right position.
If you see a red dot on the camera, you do not have the slider open.Â
2. Once you are sure your privacy slider is open, you may need to restart your Chromebook with the following instructions. In the lower right corner of your device, click first on the wifi/battery icon, choose the power button icon, then Restart.Â
***You will need to know your GCA password before taking this action.***
Once your Chromebook has restarted, log back in with your GCA email and password and go back to Class.
3. Make sure that the camera and microphone have been enabled in the settings of the site.
If you do not see the Camera and Microphone options as seen above, you may need to choose Site Settings, and then choose to Allow it.
4. If your microphone is allowed and you still cannot use it or hear anything, click on the wifi/battery icon in the lower right of the Chromebook to check your audio settings. Click on the muted audio to turn your mic/audio back on. Choose the right arrow for more Audio settings.Â
Make sure you have both audio and microphone turned on with volume up. If you use an external headset, you can choose the right source of your mic and audio here. Whichever source you are currently using will show the check mark.
5. Finally, if you are still experiencing camera or microphone issues, test the hardware itself on your device with the website listed in blue below.
Click on this link to test your webcam, microphone, or headphones. https://webcammictest.com/
If you see a pop-up asking you to Allow the webcam, please choose Allow.
On the website, under each heading, you will find the button to test that function. Please be sure your volume is turned down to 15 before starting this test...it may be very loud!
**If you have tested your microphone, webcam and/or audio on the website above and see a message that your microphone, webcam and/or audio cannot be found, you must call SCA at 404-334-4790 ext. 8 for additional troubleshooting. Follow these instructions when calling SCA.**
