Pacing in the Modules of a Canvas Course |
Every course in Canvas requires you to follow the pacing in the Modules of that course.
- Teachers and curriculum designers have created the pages in your Canvas modules to lead you through the instruction in the right order.
- Pacing allows you to learn the material in the order that makes sense, builds on your previous knowledge, and supports the academic standard you are learning.
- This means that you must view or mark-as-done every page in the right order of the Modules, before you can access the assignment that covers that material.
- Clicking directly on the assignment without viewing or completing the previous pages will not give you access. You must follow the pacing.

In any course, always choose Modules to begin working on course material, especially assignment submissions.
Do not try to access your work from links in the Grades tab, or on the new view of the Canvas Dashboard called Course work. Those options do not follow the pacing required from the Modules.
You will begin each module with the first page. Once you have viewed the information on that page and clicked the Next button, you will see the green check mark to the right. You cannot click the circle to the right without engaging with the page.
Move through your module page by page in order, scrolling to the bottom, and choosing the Next button after reading and completing all activities on each page.
If any page offers an activity, you must complete it first, then Mark as Done. The images below are just one type of example.
