Read & Write: Word Prediction - Topic Dictionary |
This article shows you how to use the Read & Write toolbar's Word Prediction feature: Topic Dictionary. This can narrow the vocabulary for student use when writing about specific topics. Only students who have been pre-approved to use this tool will need these instructions.
When using the Read & Write toolbar. Click to select the word prediction tool .
The cloud icon will turn purple to let you know it has been turned on.
Type 2-3 letters of the word you want to use and a list of words will populate to choose from. When the mouse is hovered over each word it will be read aloud. Click on the word or type the number next to the word to add it to the sentence.
If you need to type a number instead of inserting a word from the list, select the number icon before typing your number. Click the icon again to turn it off if desired.
To choose from a Topic Dictionary, follow the screenshot below:
- Select the Topic Dictionary icon on the lower left corner (it will turn purple when it's on)
- Type a topic in the search bar to narrow your vocabulary choices
- Toggle the topic of choice on to start using your new topic dictionary
