Read&Write: Talk&Type (Speech to Text) |
Only students who have been pre-approved to use this tool will need these instructions.
Talk&Type, also known as Speech to Text (STT), is a feature that allows students to speak and have their words appear on the screen.
Follow the steps below to use this tool.
Step 1. Open the Google Doc that will be used. (This could be an assignment from a teacher or a blank document, depending on the task.)
Step 2. Once the document is open, if the Read&Write toolbar doesn't open, click on the puzzle piece that should be pinned at the top right of the screen. When this has been clicked, the toolbar will open across the top of the page.
Step 3. Once the Read&Write toolbar has opened across the top of the Google document, click on the headset icon with the microphone to begin using Talk&Type.
Step 4: Once the icon has been clicked on, it will turn purple and prompt you to begin speaking.
As you speak, slow your speed and talk clearly. Be sure to tell it where to put punctuation.
Remember that this is a way to get ideas on paper. Editing is still required. Also remember, you can use the reading tools to hear what you wrote.
