After reading the description of Securly, find the device type you are using and follow the correct instructions to make sure your screen is visible to teachers in Securly.
What is Securly?
- Securly is an extension that is managed by GCA and is automatically installed in the Chrome browser for all GCA Google accounts.
- Securly is not software downloaded onto a device.
- Securly is not an account that students log into.
- Securly is not found on your Clever dashboard.
- Click here to see how you can confirm the Securly extensions are in your GCA account logged in to Chrome. When viewing your extensions, look for the following.
Are you using a GCA-issued Chromebook?
Chromebooks do not need to "sync"...they are already automatically synced.
Follow the list of instructions below by clicking on the blue letters in each bullet point.
- Restart your Chromebook. Do not just close it, or sign out. You must restart.
- Check that your Chrome browser is using an up-to-date version.
- Use only one Chrome window or "desk" on the Chromebook. Use the split screen key to see if you have others open and close all but one.
Are you using a personal Chromebook?
Personal Chromebooks do not need to "sync" but they cannot have a personal Google account logged in along with the GCA Google account.
Follow the instructions below by clicking on the blue letters in the bullet point.
- If you have a personal Google account logged in to your Chromebook as well as your GCA one, you will need to remove the personal account, following the instructions for using a personal Chromebook for a GCA login.
- You may lose any local downloads on the Chromebook when removing a personal account. To keep those, you will need to move the downloads into your Google Drive first.
Are you using a personal computer that is NOT a Chromebook?
Follow the instructions in each bullet point below, clicking on any links shown in blue letters.
- You must be using a Chrome browser. Not Firefox, not Edge, not Bing, not Safari (on iOS devices), or any other alternative browser.
- Check that your Chrome browser is using an up-to-date version.
- Once you are logged in to your GCA Google account in a Chrome browser, be sure to sync the account.
- Once you are synced with the GCA Google account in a Chrome browser, you can confirm that the Securly extensions are there, by following these instructions.
