Securly Home App for Learning Coaches and Legal Guardians |
The Securly Home App is available for all parents and learning coaches who wish to have a greater ability to monitor their student's online activity and access.
Key Points To Know:
- Use of the app must be requested through GCA. Please contact your Family Engagement Liaison to request it. Downloading the app without first requesting it through GCA will result in an app that does not pair with the GCA student and will not function as intended.
- Seven to ten days after signing up, an email from Securly and an email from GCA will be sent to the email address that was used to sign up.
- The email from Securly will give you directions for logging in to the app.
- The email from GCA will give you the same information found below about using the app successfully.
- If you already use the Securly Home App through GCA and need to add another GCA student, please reach out to your Family Engagement Liaison for the same request. Once you have the survey link, complete it with the additional student's information.
- The Securly Home App will not allow you to decrease the security of your student's GCA device and account. It will only allow you to increase it.
- Be mindful of your student's need to access school approved sites. For example, what may seem to be games could actually be a site that teachers use for academic practice of math facts. Asking the teacher is a good way to determine if the site is used for their course.
- Be careful not to block sites that are listed in the student's Clever dashboard. Those are all school sanctioned sites that provide needed curriculum.
- Please use the following urls if you plan to block YouTube successfully:
youtube.com
m.youtube.com
youtu.be
music.youtube.com- Please note! If you block YouTube with your app and a teacher has linked a required YouTube video for a school assignment, you will need to unblock YouTube temporarily for your student to have access. GCA is unable to manage this setting if the parent has blocked it.
- As you make changes to the student's access from your app, it may take a couple of minutes to apply to the GCA device.
A Tour of the App
The Activity tab, shown at the bottom of the screen.
- At the top you will see all the GCA students you are paired with. Tapping on each student will give you a snapshot of the Activity history related to that one student for the past seven days. Tapping on the categories in that snapshot will show you more detail.
- You can Search for a site, use Filters to view sites from one specific student or by category, and choose Flagged to see any concerning searches by your student.
- Note that any site showing the blocked symbol only means the student tried to access that site but were unsuccessful in reaching it.
The Pause tab, shown at the bottom of the screen.
This option will allow you to pause the internet activity for the student on a GCA issued device or in their managed Chrome browser. If you use this option and your student reports issues on their device, please check your App first.
** Please note! If you have used this option and it causes your student to miss school Classes or be unable to complete school work on their device, this will not be an acceptable excuse.
The Rules tab, shown at the bottom of the screen.
This option allows you to block site categories, specific sites, and set parameters for search and video settings by individual student on a GCA issued device or in their managed Chrome browser.
** Please note! You cannot allow any sites, categories, or search & video settings that are already blocked or managed by GCA.
If you would like to block YouTube, you can do so under the option to Allow/Block site categories.
If GCA already blocks a site and you try to block the same site, you may receive a message that this action is not allowed. That is because GCA already blocks the site.
The Schedules tab, shown at the bottom of the screen.
This option allows you to create an online/offline schedule for your student's GCA issued device.
A Bedtime configuration is the only one that will carry overnight in the schedule.
You can choose to create a new schedule for times within one day that do not carry overnight.
As long as there is not a conflict, you may set up both a Bedtime configuration and a Schedule configuration.
** Please note! You will receive a warning if you try to create an offline schedule during regular school hours. It is strongly recommended that you do not do so. If this schedule interferes with attendance to live Classes or completing school work, it will not be accepted as an excuse.
The More tab, shown at the bottom of the screen.
This option allows you set up monitoring notices, notification settings, manage your password, choose the time zone that will affect your students under Schedules, choose your display mode, and log out.
The FAQ section provides resources in the App directly from Securly.
** Please note! GCA does not manage your password in the Securly Home App. GCA does not manage the functionality of the Securly Home App. For help with those options, please email homesupport@securly.com
