Frequently Asked Questions About Nucleus |
What is Nucleus?
- Nucleus is the program through which you will track your student's total attendance data, including any missed live Class sessions. You can also add any additional work time and submit any documentation for excused absences.
Who is responsible for logging time in Nucleus for my Student?
- We've asked parents/guardians to check the student's time daily in Nucleus and any classes that have not been logging in automatically. They need to make sure that their student is getting the minimum number of hours daily required by the state. Please ensure that the person who will be logging time for your student daily is listed as their Legal Guardian or Learning Coach in Infinite Campus and that they are able to log in to Nucleus. If you need assistance determining the role of Learning Coach and/or Legal Guardian in Infinite Campus, please contact your Family Engagement Liaison (FEL).
How do I log into Nucleus?
- Here is the link to log into the Nucleus platform: https://portal.learnmark.georgiacyber.org. If it doesn't work the first time by clicking on it, try copying and pasting the link into your browser. You may also need to clear your browser history or clear your cache.
Why should Parents/Guardians log time for students?
- Like every public school in the state of Georgia, GCA has a required minimum number of hours of attendance per day, by grade, as mandated by the Georgia Department of Education.
- Your student's attendance in live class sessions is electronically captured when they log in from Canvas and is automatically updated in Nucleus. You do not need to manually add attendance for those sessions.
- *** It is important to note that adding additional work time in Nucleus will not take the place of missing a required live Class session. ***
How long do I have to log the time into Nucleus?
- Parents and Guardians must log time every day for their student(s).
How many hours do I log for my student?
-
Students must have the required number of hours per day to be counted present. During these times, the Learning Coach or Legal Guardian will need to enter attendance time to ensure the minimum required hours are met.
- Grades K-3: 4.5 hours (4 hours, 30 minutes)
- Grades 4-5: 5.0 hours (5 hours)
- Grades 6-12: 5.5 hours (5 hours, 30 minutes)
Where can I find the policy about excuses and attendance?
- If you have questions about excuses and/or GCA attendance policy, you can check the GCA District Parent & Student Handbook for details about what excuses you can submit for absences. You can also access more information and frequently asked questions about Attendance by logging into your Canvas account and clicking on the Attendance Course from the Dashboard or from the Course icon on the left side navigations.
When am I responsible for logging time into Nucleus for my Student?
- Every day, Parents/Guardians are responsible for making sure their student's minimum state-required hours have been met for each school day. If the time has not been logged in automatically, then Parents/Guardians need to make sure that their student is getting the minimum daily hours required by the state.
How do I log time into Nucleus for my student?
- When you log into Nucleus, you'll see on the left-hand side "Attendance" and a dropdown arrow. Click it to find "Time Keeper" as an option. When that comes up, choose the student that you want to log time for (or if it's one, then it's super easy!). Be sure that you are adding activities to the correct date by looking for the monthly calendar. Be sure the blue circle is over the correct date. From there, be sure to scroll down till you see something that says, "Add an Activity." When you click to add, you'll have 3 things to fill out: the “activity selection”: (Note: there's not one for testing at this time, so use "Additional Courses" for now to log MAP testing OR use the related subject course) if you're logging time for a specific course, (for example, Mathematics, Spanish, etc.), and the 2 places you'll put the “hours” and “minutes.” Once you've filled out those 3 things, click save, and you're done!

What does the red dot under the date mean?
- Anytime there is a red dot underneath the date, that means that the student has not met the minimum state-required hours for that date. Once the red dot goes away, it'll take a few hours to update, and it will correct itself. As a reminder, Parents and Guardians must log time every day for their student(s).
What if a teacher cancels a class? What do I need to do, and will it count against my student’s attendance?
- When a teacher cancels a class, it does not count against students' attendance. However, because there were no live classes to log in to Class due to the cancellation and because that time was not added to the total hours for that day, parents/guardians need to add the time the student spent working on the subject/content in Nucleus to meet the minimum requirement for hours. It may take 48-72 hours for Nucleus to reflect the canceled class.
What if I need additional help with Nucleus? Is there a video or step-by-step guide to assist me on logging time?
- Absolutely! You can view any videos, step-by-step guides, activities, and more frequently asked questions about Attendance by logging into your Canvas account and clicking on the Attendance Course card or find the Attendance Course in the left navigation bar.
